  Advent Season:

November 30th, 2025 is the First Sunday of advent. We welcome another cycle (cycle A) of the New Liturgical Year of the Church. Each week of Advent emphasizes themes such HOPE, PEACE, JOY and LOVE, helping us prepare our minds and hearts for the birthday of our Savior on Christmas day. Traditionally the candles used are 3 purplesand 1 pink. Purple (the color associated of royalty), represents prayer, penance, and works of mercy and the PINK (Rose) represents joy. This pink color is used on the third Sunday of Advent which is called “Gaudete Sunday of Advent” that means to rejoice.  The priest is wearing rose-colored (Pink) vestment to symbolize joy.

The use of the advent wreath and candles are a longstanding Catholic tradition that was originally adopted by Christians in the Middle Ages as part of their spiritual preparation for Christmas.  The Advent wreath is typically made of evergreen branches and holds four candles, each representing a theme on each week of the weeks of advent.

As we enter into the season of Advent let us slow down and spend time reflecting on how this mighty God incarnated, became like us, and how we can be connected to him. This is the season to deepen and to make a fresh start at building a closer relationship with christ and with one another.  It is indeed a time to spiritually prepare ourselves so we can enjoy the spirit of Christmas.

So, the season of advent is a time to be vigilant, to wait patiently and to prepare for Jesus coming to us to lead us to the fullness of God’s kingdom, a kingdom of love, peace and joy.
